Warsaw cares about the health of children and youth
"According to specialists, Polish children are gaining weight at the fastest rate in Europe. In order to promote healthy habits among the youngest, in September we are launching a pilot programme âClass in form â form in classâ," says RafaĆ Trzaskowski, Mayor of Warsaw.
"In 50 primary schools in Wola, ĆrĂłdmieĆcie and UrsynĂłw, pupils will learn what to eat, what to avoid and why it is good idea to exercise. By June 2024, we will allocate PLN 600,000 (âŹ134,000) from the city budget for the programme until June 2024," Trzaskowski emphasises.
For a group of pupils at risk of overweight or obesity identified on the basis of surveys among programme participants (and their parents/guardians), the following will be organised:
- meetings with nutrition educators,
- physical activity classes with exercise specialists.
In order to avoid stigmatisation among peers, this programme cycle will take place outside the schools. The programme will be implemented by the municipal healthcare providers.
