People Infected with HIV after "Vampire Facial" in an Illegal Spa-center
Three women in New Mexico were diagnosed with HIV after undergoing cosmetic procedures known as the "vampire facial". The beauty treatments were performed at an unlicensed medical spa. This is the first case of contracting the virus after cosmetic needle services in the United States.
According to a report by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the VIP SPA in Albuquerque reused single-use equipment that was contaminated with residual blood. Unlabeled test tubes and syringes that had not been disposed of properly were found at the spot. There was no steam sterilizer for cleaning the instruments.

"Vampire" facials known as platelet-rich plasma "microneedling" are popular for skin rejuvenation. The procedure involves injections of plasma into the dermal layers through sterile needles. This trend has become popular among young people, especially Gen Z, due to the influence of celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, who share about their beauty treatments.
It is important to note that safety and hygiene when performing cosmetic procedures should be a high priority to prevent similar cases of viral infection. All clients should be informed of the risks and choose certified and licensed medical centers for such procedures.
