From May 14 to 25, one of the most prestigious events in the world of cinema in the Old Continent is going to take place - the Cannes Film Festival.

The 77th edition of the festival will get the attention not only with the competition between the individual titles, but also with its glamorous red carpet show where plenty of stars are expected to parade. Among them are the beautiful representative of the young generation Anya Taylor-Joy, her colleagues Barry Keoghan, Chris Hemsworth, the Bulgarian star Mariya Bakalova, well-known names such as Richard Gere and Meryl Streep, etc.

The opening ceremony was linked to the participation of the latter actress after she received an honorary Palme d'Or for "her indisputable place in the history of cinema". 74-year-old Meryl Streep has already won almost every major honor in cinema and has a record of 21 Oscar nominations.

The other two honorary Palme d'Or to be awarded are Studio Ghibli on May 20 and director George Lucas at the closing ceremony. Yesterday, before the awards were given, this year's festival jury were presented headed by director Greta Gerwig - the first American woman to head the jury and its youngest head since 1966.

Mariya Bakalova will also take part in the battle for the Palme d'Or who played the lead female role in another of the highly anticipated films - The Intern by Ali Abbasi. The film is a biographical interpretation of the life of Donald Trump and in it the Bulgarian actress partners with Sebastian Stan (known as the Winter Soldier in the Marvel movies, so beloved by Gen Z) as Ivana Trump. There is also a Bulgarian movie to compete for the "Special View" award– The Shameless by Konstantin Bozhanov. More than 35,000 visitors from all over the world are expected at the festival.
