To fight against cyberbullying, Instagram has introduced a "safety button" in France that allows users to directly call an emergency hotline, which is a world premiere, AFP reported on November 7th, according to Agerpres.

Anyone reporting a case of online harassment will now see a phone call button that will connect them with psychologists and lawyers from 3018, the national assistance hotline for victims of digital violence, available daily between 09:00-23:00.

For the e-Enfance association, a partner in the initiative, this direct call button, which connects to the number 3018 without leaving the application, is an efficient tool and has been long-awaited.

"For years, we have been requesting a 'safety button' and we have also requested one at the European level", said Justine Atlan, general manager of the e-Enfance association.

"It took a little longer to be understood, but we are satisfied that direct access has been integrated", explained Justine Atlan.

"This will allow young victims, once their report has been registered, to benefit from immediate specific support", she added.

On TikTok, a very popular network among young people, there is no direct call button, but users who report a case are now provided with a link that directs them to the 3018 website.

In France, a quarter of families have already faced the problem of cyberbullying of a minor, according to a recent survey conducted for e-Enfance: 15% of primary school students have already faced this issue, the percentage reaching 25% in secondary education and 27% among high school students.

To address this phenomenon, the French government presented a series of measures at the end of September, from the systematic reporting of harassment cases to the justice system to the intention to exclude harassing students from social networks.

In total, 86% of young people aged 8 to 18 are registered on social networks - 67% of primary school students, 93% of middle school students and 96% of high school students.
