In recent years, people have been talking more and more about a mental health crisis among Gen Z young people. This trend is causing serious concern among mental health experts, teachers and parents.

Undoubtedly, young people nowadays face major challenges that significantly affect their mental well-being.

One of the main factors contributing to Gen Z's mental health crisis is the constant "hanging" on social media. These platforms often create the illusion of a perfect life, which can lead to unrealistic expectations. That, in turn, increases feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem among young people.

Besides, school and university pressure is another significant factor. The competition for good grades, admission to prestigious universities, and finding quality employment after graduation can be a source of significant stress and anxiety for young people. They often feel forced to live up to the high expectations of society, family and their own ambitions.

The COVID-19 pandemic also contributed significantly to this crisis. Isolation, distance learning and uncertainty about the future have increased the cases of depression and anxiety among young people. Restrictions imposed to contain the pandemic also had an impact on social interactions that are vital for young people's emotional development.

Worries are even more serious as young people are often hesitant to seek help or they would rather not talk about their mental health problems, but bottle them up.

To tackle this crisis, access to mental health care and support for young people needs improving. It includes raising awareness about mental health, breaking down stigma and providing resources and therapies that are easily accessible and acceptable to young people. Further, education systems should integrate mental health programs that teach young people how to manage stress, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.
