Several dozen people gathered on February 4 in front of the PSD headquarters in Bucharest to convey to Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu that Romania is ready for the legalization of civil partnerships.

The event was organized by the MozaiQ Association, in the context of the Prime Minister stating for the second time on January 31st that Romania is not ready for the legalization of civil partnerships.

The director of MozaiQ revealed that he presented the Prime Minister with a barometer created by the association, indicating that more than 60% of Romanians believe their lives would remain unaffected if civil partnerships were legalized. Additionally, they offered him the LGBT+ community flag to be displayed in his office, along with a mug conveying the message "Gravity Law Ahead!" and "Gravity Law, after the legalization of civil partnerships!" to emphasize that there would be no significant changes following the legalization of civil partnerships in Romania.

He also brought postcards with data from the barometer to send to Brussels, as well as a bag with the message "With love tucked in the bag" for the Prime Minister to use when shopping.

Attendees at the gathering displayed the LGBT+ community flag and held a banner conveying the message "Our love is equal".

"We came to tell him that Romania is ready"

The MozaiQ Association recently launched the "Equality Index" - Political Demands of the LGBT+ Community in Romania, in a list of 52 points.

"We came to PSD today to send a message to Mr. Ciolacu that Romania is ready. We brought here the 'Equality Index' with the 52 points we demand from the political class.

These are issues related to family, recognition of gender equality, access to public services, health, education, and all these are on the agenda of the LGBT+ community, especially in this complicated year. In addition to this Index we gave to Mr. Ciolacu, we also brought him a mug. We have a mug that we made, which, on one side, says 'Gravity Law Ahead!' and 'Gravity Law, after the legalization of civil partnerships!'.

What does this imply? It means that absolutely nothing changes, neither the laws of physics nor the situation of Romanians, after the legalization of civil partnerships, a goal that should put Mr. Ciolacu alongside his partners from the Party of European Socialists", said Vlad Viski, executive director of MozaiQ, on February 4 in front of the PSD headquarters.

He added that they also brought a MozaiQ opinion barometer to Mr. Ciolacu, showing that over 60% of Romanians say their lives would not change if civil partnerships were legalized.

"We bring evidence, not just empty words". Over 50% of Romanians support civil partnerships

"We also brought Mr. Ciolacu an opinion barometer that we released, in which Romanians express their opinion about civil partnerships and other subjects. More than 60% of Romanians say their lives would not change if civil partnerships were legalized.

52% of Romanians in major cities support the legalization of civil partnerships, and 59% of Romanians in Bucharest support the legalization of civil partnerships. So we bring evidence, not just empty words", Viski added.

He also brought a LGBT+ community flag to the head of the government to put in his office, considering that Ciolacu mentioned having friends from the community.

"Mr. Ciolacu said he has friends from the LGBT+ community. It's a positive gesture when his friends from the LGBT+ community visit him at home and notice a LGBT+ flag on the desk, creating a sense of security in Mr. Ciolacu's office.

In the end, we have the figures and some postcards that Mr. Ciolacu can send to Brussels, he can put a stamp on them and send them to Brussels, to Timmermans and all his friends from the Party of European Socialists. And with this little bag 'With love tucked in the bag' he can go shopping", the executive director of MozaiQ added.

Ciolacu mentioned having friends who are gay and asserted that he is open-minded, yet he declines to acknowledge same-sex couples

On November 23, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu stated, when asked about the fact that Romania must present, by March 25, proposals for measures following the ECHR decision regarding the recognition and legal protection of same-sex couples, that Romanian society is not prepared for this.

The Prime Minister also said that he is "not an obtuse person" and has friends who "have relationships with another men", but he speaks from the perspective of a prime minister. The leader of PSD added that it would not be the first or the last time that the ECHR condemns Romania.

"I am not an obtuse person. I have no reservations. I have friends who have relationships with another men. I have no problem. But I am now speaking from the perspective of a prime minister", Ciolacu added.

Asked if this means that the Government of Romania is violating the ECHR decision, Marcel Ciolacu replied: "I repeat, it is neither the first nor the last".
