Clouds of smoke over Western Europe. You'll never guess where they came from
The Met Office, the UK’s national weather service, is sounding the alarm. Smoke clouds are visible on satellite images over the whole of Western Europe.
Huge clouds of smoke can be spotted over Western Europe. The cause? The still ongoing forest fires in Canada.

Smoke from Canada has reached Western Europe sky
On Monday 26 June, the UK’s national weather service reported that a cloud of smoke from fires in Canada had arrived over Europe. They stressed, however, that it should not be as harmful and toxic as they were in North America.
Switzerland's IQAir notified that air quality in Canada’s Montreal was among the worst in the world on Monday and the worst on Sunday.
Clouds of smoke have also been spotted by the Spanish National Meteorological Agency. "A satellite image shows smoke from the fires in Canada reaching the Iberian Peninsula. Further south suspended dust from over the Sahara can be seen," says the AEMET’s Twitter account.
The UK Met Office has tweeted that in addition to the negative effects of fumes in the atmosphere, there is also something positive (or rather: eye-catching) to be observed. For it turns out that the next few days we will be able to see unusually vivid sunrises and sunsets.
According to the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre, more than 7.4 million hectares of forest have burned in Canada this year, of which over 1.4 million in the last seven days.
