Alarmingly high estimates from experts regarding global warming. In over 60 years, Constanța will have Greece’s climate
Experts' estimates regarding global warming are alarming. In over 60 years, Bucharest will be as warm as it is now in North Macedonia, and Brașov will have a climate similar to Lombardy.
At least that's what an interactive map created by an American researcher from the University of Maryland suggests. Romanian meteorologists' estimates are equally concerning.

We are experiencing the longest heatwave in Romania's history. This map shows in black the areas of the globe where maximum temperatures recorded in mid-July have exceeded the average by 10-14 degrees from the period 1991-2020. Romania is in the middle of the extreme heatwave.
And the warming will continue in the coming years, say researchers. To help us understand how our children will live in 60 years, a professor from the University of Maryland has created an application that matches each city with another that is currently experiencing the climate projected for the first city in 2080.
Thus, Bucharest will experience a climate similar to that of Negotino, North Macedonia - with over 7.7 degrees warmer summers and 5.8 degrees warmer winters. Brașov will have the climate of today's Lombardy, while Constanța will have the same weather as Greece has now. Those who live there say that summers are a nightmare.
Cătălin Oltean, a Romanian living in Italy: "We spend more time indoors, the streets are somewhat deserted in the middle of the afternoon, and many restaurants and places that used to be open all day, tend to close during the afternoon".
In Negotino, Macedonia, the average daytime temperature is 34 degrees, and 19 degrees at night.
Cosmin Marian Pâslaru, a tourist in North Macedonia: "In the sunny areas, it was unbearable, but being a mountainous region, you could find some shade and a terrace".
Romanian meteorologists have also estimated climate changes.
Roxana Bojariu, a climatologist at the Romanian National Meteorological Administration: "The increases in summer temperatures are more significant in southern areas. In winter, the largest temperature increases will be in the northeastern part of the country and in mountainous areas".
Florin Gârbacea - scientific researcher in ecology: "February 2024 was so warm that it practically no longer felt like a winter month".
Warming will have direct effects on the economy and public health. In the pessimistic scenario, meteorologists say, there will be an increase in mortality related to thermal stress by the end of the century.
