The issue regarding the use of a child's image resurfaced when popular youtubers Friz and Wersow's child was born. However, there are influencers who go much further than them. What consequences can they face?

Maksymilian Krasoń and Weronika Krasoń are one of the most popular YouTube couples. On their "Weronika i Max" channel, the influencers share humorous lifestyle content. For some time now, however, hey have been focusing on one topic.

Ever since Weronika became pregnant, the channel's footage began to revolve around this event. And when their daughter was born, she completely dominated the couple's content. Is it right to publicise your child's image online this way? What risks do influencers face?

Wersow and Friz show their baby online

When a video appeared on the channel of Weronika "Wersow" Sowa and Karol "Friz" Wisniewski in which they introduced their daughter Maja to their followers, it didn't take long for fans to react. An Instagram account posting pictures of the infant appeared.

Friz and Wersow in a pre-birth video said that they would show the baby online. However they also underscored that when their daughter grows up, she will decide for herself whether she wants to be seen online.

- A toddler by the age of three is going to change its appearance so much later on in life that people won't recognise them. While being a toddler it doesn’t even know what's going on. [...] It's such an integral part of our lives," Wersow explained in the video.

Twitter users, however, were quite outraged by the behaviour of Wersow and Friz's fans. Most people criticised the internet users who created Maja's fanpage. Eventually, the account with photos of the influencers' child disappeared from Instagram.

Now other Influencers show how they change a baby's nappy

Some users suggested that basically by the fact that Friz and Wersow decided to show an image of Maja, they should expect this kind of behaviour from their fans. On the other hand, there were also some people who pointed out that the influencers are not the worst in this regard at all.

There are quite a few parenting accounts on the web which make their money by talking about their children and showing images of them. Just think of profiles such as "The Happy Family" or "Andziaks", who even recorded a vlog of her giving a birth.

Zebo, another influencer, this time on Twitter, asked on the other hand not to complain about Wersow and Friz and referred to Max and Weronika Krasoń's account. They are a pair of popular youtubers who have talked quite extensively not only about the pregnancy, but also about all aspects of the birth of their daughter. Their channel has since featured only the footage of the baby.

Maksymilian Krasoń shows how he changes the little one's nappy for the first time in his life. The influencers also document touching moments with the great-grandmother and the evening routine they go through every day. As many as ten videos appeared on their channel within a month and all of them are about their daughter.

Wojtek Kardyś, a popular social media specialist, points out that influencers make money from baby images not only on YouTube, but also when collaborating on Instagram. The couple's fans also noticed a flood of baby pictures there and suggested the couple should keep some intimacy.

"I loved your content, but since the little one came along, your YouTube and Instagram only ever revolves around the baby. In my opinion, take a break, find a moment of intimacy. Come back when you've 'enjoyed' the little one. I wish you the best," wrote one fan.

Influencers make money on children's images

Sure, these are probably not the only instances in the world of parenting social media accounts. What's more, there are profiles that are run by children, an example being the popular "Hejka tu Lenka" account which is being followed by 1.46 million users. In March 2023 we also covered the story of a 2-year-old girl who became an influencer just by smelling scented candles.

On more than one occasion, you have probably also seen celebrities exploiting their children and advertising products with them. One example is the woman who was accused by internet users of sexualisation of her daughter in numerous posts featuring discount codes.

For this reason, some countries are now choosing to restrict influencers in this area. In January, we wrote about the Norwegian party Vestre, which wants to bring about a ban on parents publishing their children's images online, as well as their voice and personal data for commercial purposes.

Prosecuting such internet users is already underway in other countries. Last year in Slovenia an influencer was fined for forcing his child to work. The inspection assessed that the case qualified as illegal child labour.

Why is it better to refrain from publishing children's images online?

If one is not convinced by the penalties, it is worth thinking about what other users might do with the child's image.

Tiktoker Anna Chojnowska talked about the mother of a three-year-old girl who posted pictures of her child playing with, among other things, adult toys. It turned out that more than 60 per cent of those watching her account were not parents, but middle-aged men and that their data could be found on paedophilia sites.

Sure, it is not known whether such people also follow the parenting accounts of Polish influencers, but it is worth keeping this issue in mind when publishing a photo of your child. You never know who will use it and for what purpose.
