LGBT activist surprises organisers by attending March for Life and Family
On Sunday, 19 May 2024, the March for Life and Family traversed the streets of Toruń. Among the representatives of the right-wing political sphere, there was an unexpected participant: an LGBT activist who highlighted the challenges faced by rainbow families in Poland.
Time and again, family activists clash with pro-choice advocates. Some proclaim that children are a family's greatest joy, while others insist that choice should be paramount. These groups typically converge when one organises a march, parade, or protest, but often, the debates shift online, where each side appears more outspoken.

Law and Justice MPs took part in the March for Life and Family
Law and Justice party members participated in the Toruń March for Life and Family under the slogan ‘Faithful to the legacy of John Paul II - united for life, family, and homeland’. European Parliament candidate Kosma Złotowski shared his thoughts on participating in the march on Facebook.
The politician wrote: "During one of the final votes in this legislature, the European Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the right to abortion to be enshrined in the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights. This is not the only example, but perhaps one of the saddest, of the complete domination of extreme left values in Brussels. Events such as today's March for Life and Family in Toruń are essential to publicly demonstrate our opposition to policies that undermine life at every stage of its development."
"The family, as a bastion of freedom and security, poses a threat to ideologies that seek to exert total control over us. Today, Poland has the right to shape its own family and health policies, independent of the EU. Our constitution and the EU treaties guarantee this autonomy. Whether this will continue is at stake in the June elections. For this reason alone, it is worth participating," he added.
Waldemar Furmanek, the March for Life and Family organiser in Toruń stated in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza: "I chose the form of a march to show that the family is cool and it's nice to be together. A stress-free upbringing leads to a stressful life. We experience both bright and joyful situations as well as sad ones that need to be addressed," he added, referring to the graphic anti-abortion posters.
An LGBT activist took part in the March for Life and Family
Amidst the crowd of participants at the March for Life and Family, activist Cyril Wilczyńska stood out. She carried a black umbrella adorned with phrases such as: "We shout for help," "We support LGBT families," "Two dads = mum and dad," "Life and family for LGBT people," and "I prefer my trans daughter to a dead child."
In an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, Wilczyńska emphasised that her presence was not a provocation: "I want to raise awareness that LGBT people live in a constant state of martial law in Poland. They face daily attacks. We are screaming for help. We urgently need legislation to ban hate speech against LGBT people. Our community is suffering and dying every day. LGBT children are dying every day."
