Dog influencer arrested. The end of animal torture
Influencer Małgorzata K., known for her involvement in dog training, has been detained by the prosecutor’s office. The investigation began in September 2023 and centres around suspected violence against animals.
Training dogs can be challenging. Dogs may not always understand commands and may react aggressively. Recently, there has been an increased focus on the flawed concept of dominance used by trainers like Cesar Millan. As a result, modern trainers are taught to achieve desired results through cooperation instead of punishment and forceful discipline.
Dog influencer in trouble
The case of Małgorzata K. (also known as Malgo) has been a topic of discussion among pro-animal circles for some time. Malgo is the owner of a dog school called "Mam psa. I co dalej?" ("I have a dog. What’s next?"). However, animal rights activists are not satisfied with her achievements.
On November 13, 2023, police officers, along with expert witnesses, PIW staff, forensic technicians, and representatives from organisations that helped publicise the case, including WIOZ and the Mondo Cane Foundation, entered the premises of Malgo's schools. They found seventeen animals in a state of extreme neglect and took 15 of them to the shelter. Thirteen dogs were immediately picked up by their owners.
The case of Malgo gained public attention when Coffie, a golden retriever exhibiting aggressive behaviour, came under her care. The influencer confined him in a small cage with a muzzle for a period of 10 days. Upon removing the muzzle, blood was observed flowing from the dog’s mouth. The dog was taken for walks twice a day, wearing a choker.
Malgo wanted to flee the country?
The Poznan prosecutor's office has been attempting to charge Malgo with animal abuse since the beginning of March. However, they have been unable to do so, as the woman has successfully avoided meeting with her lawyers. Łukasz Wawrzyniak, the Poznan prosecutor's office spokesman, said in an interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, "She clearly avoided us."
After learning that Malgo was planning to leave Poland, the prosecutor's office requested an exploratory arrest from the court. Łukasz Wawrzyniak reported, "The court granted our request, and on Thursday morning, 28 March, the police arrested Małgorzata K. and brought her to a detention centre in Poznań."
The prosecutor has stated that Malgo will likely not hear the charges until next week so that she will be spending the Easter holidays in custody. The influencer could potentially face up to three years in prison for animal abuse.
