Chief educational officer fights against the red stripe on school reports. "These are communist colours"
Malopolska's chief educational officer Barbara Nowak is going to war against red stripes on school reports. After that, the time will come to deal with clothes, lipstick and cars.
So called "red-stripe certificates" (or Prinicipal's Honor Roll) are awarded to pupils for good and exceptional school results. One can get it if they have a grade point average of at least 4.75 and at least very good conduct (evaluation of behaviour). Receiving a Principal’s Honor Roll is often connected with a book award - sometimes valuable, more often in the vein of "Atlas of mushrooms part III" or "Encyclopaedia of the most beautiful Polish lakes in Wielkopolska". Children often get money from their parents or other relatives if they manage to get the "red-stripe" certificate.

Educational experts are discussing the effects of this special form of school report and whether it is an outdated method that lowers pupils' morale instead of motivating them. Barbara Nowak, the Małopolska’s chief educational officer, has also decided to look into the issue of the award. And more specifically, its colour.
Barbara Nowak starts a fuss. "In Poland we value national colours, not communist ones"
Chief educational officer of Malopolska voivodship published a post on Twitter that in her view debunked the myth of the "red stripe". As Barbara Nowak very rightly points out, the stripe on certificates is not red at all, but white and red.
As the curator wrote, "in Poland we value the national colours, not the communist ones". Red to the sack, and the sack to the lake. Down with colours which have evil connotations.
Barbara Nowak actively protests against the "communist" and rainbow colours, while the education authority of Malopolska voivodship declares that measures for the mental health of children and young people are not within their remit. Let's be serious - there are, after all, more important things.
Those standing highest in the hierarchy of relevance according to chief educational officers in Poland unfortunately include inspections of LGBT-friendly schools and the seeking conspiracies in the customary naming of stripes on school certificates. The rest? The rest can wait.
