The US government, under the leadership of President Joe Biden, is set to implement a controversial ban that will negatively impact the LGBT+ community. As per the new regulations, transgender students will be prohibited from using school restrooms that match their gender identity. This is just one of several discriminatory rules the community must endure.

Transgender individuals are people whose gender identity does not align with the sex they were assigned at birth based on biological characteristics. These individuals may identify as male, female, both, or neither. Gender identification can be a complex and individual process.

It's important to note that gender identity and sexual orientation are not the same. Gender identity pertains to how a person perceives themselves, while sexual orientation refers to an individual's preferences and attractions towards others.

United States versus transgender people

According to recent reports from US media, discussions regarding the prohibition of transgender individuals from using school bathrooms that align with their gender identity were concluded in mid-April. This regulation disregards the emotional comfort of the country's youngest citizens. Many individuals on the internet believe that this measure will result in widespread criticism of the government's actions.

The regulation is expected to come into effect as early as August of this year. To date, at least 11 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Idaho, and Utah, have adopted it.

This is not the first instance of discrimination against transgender individuals by the US authorities. For a long time, trans female students have been prohibited from participating in sports activities meant for girls. Additionally, teachers are required to inform parents if any child confesses to being transgender. They are also prohibited from addressing them by their preferred pronouns or first names.

LGBT+ community defends transgender people

The US LGBT+ community opposes discrimination against transgender students in schools. Activists often cite provisions in the US Constitution emphasising equality for people of different genders, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
