The Stonewall Group, in collaboration with tranzycja.pl website, decided to take care of the professional life of transgender people. Together they have published a guide for both employees and employers.

On Monday 11 September, the Stonewall Group shared a post on Instagram. In it, it announced that they had created a career guide for transgender people in collaboration with tranzycja.pl website.

Career guide for transgender people

"As part of our campaign with @tranzycja.pl, we are asking trans people about their work experience and what changes trans people looking for a job in Poland need," reads the Stonewall Group's post.

"Together with @tranzycja.pl, we are providing you with an employee handbook with lots of valuable information on how to defend yourself against various forms of abuse and how to react in situations of discrimination and exploitation," the post further reads.

Free career guide for transgender people

Being a transgender person in Poland is not easy. Representatives of the minority regularly have to deal with media harassment and stigmatisation. Unfortunately, the government, which should protect transgender people, washes its hands. As a reminder, transition can often be a traumatic experience and trans people have to sue their own parents in order to undergo a legal gender correction.

The Stonewall Group’s guide aims to help transgender people find their way in the workplace. This can be difficult for a number of reasons: from an unsupportive environment to the dysphoria caused by, for example, deadnaming (referring to someone by a no longer used name) if someone does not yet have documents that match her identity. From the Stonewall Group's guide, trans people can find out, among other things:

  • where to look for a job,
  • how to prepare for a job interview,
  • how to deal with discrimination in the workplace.

"We are providing you with an employee guide created for transgender people taking their first steps in the job market. Reading it you will learn how to find and maintain employment as a transgender person, how to defend yourself against various forms of abuse and how to react in situations of discrimination and exploitation," reads transpraca.pl.

It is worth emphasising that the guide is free. If you are a transgender person and want to gain confidence before looking for a job, you don't have to worry about spending money.

A guide for employers

The Stonewall Group has also prepared a guide for employers. They, too, can get a free handbook in which they will learn:

  • what the reality of transgender people is,
  • how to build inclusiveness into the workplace
  • how to introduce a new trans employee to the workplace.

"The aim of this booklet is to give you an insight into the situation of transgender people in the job market: the difficulties and discrimination they face in the workplace and how employers can address these problems. We will tell you how to create an inclusive workplace, where transgender people can feel comfortable, safe and find space for their development and stable employment," reads transpraca.pl website.
