Zielona Góra to invest in bat boxes to combat mosquito plague
Zielona Góra is creating boxes for bats to fight mosquitoes. Why should such initiatives be implemented everywhere?
If you've watched Make Life Harder's Instagram stories before, you'll know that bats are beneficial and important mammals. Unfortunately, they haven't had the best reputation in the past, as people tend to believe untrue myths about them.

Zielona Góra invests in bat boxes
The city of Zielona Góra has taken steps to protect its residents from mosquitoes by providing shelter for bats. Recently, hedgehog boxes were introduced in the city, and now bat boxes have also been installed.
These boxes will provide a safe breeding ground for bats, which are natural predators of mosquitoes and can eat up to 2,000 insects in a day. The idea for the bat boxes was proposed by Jacek Budziński, a councillor from Zielona Góra, who spoke about the issue in an interview with the wzielonej.pl website.
Bat boxes residents will fight mosquitoes in Zielona Góra
According to Sebastian Pilichowski's interview with Gazeta Wyborcza, placing bat boxes around the city is a more effective solution than spraying to combat mosquitoes. These boxes provide a better habitat for the bats, which in turn helps them protect us from mosquitoes for extended periods.
In addition, bat boxes are an environmentally friendly solution, unlike the popular mosquito sprays known to be harmful to other insects. Therefore, hedgehogs and bats serve as a much better protection against mosquitoes.
We hope that other cities will follow in the footsteps of Zielona Góra and adopt this ecological approach. Bat boxes are a great solution, and we should not let harmful and untrue myths hold us from utilising them.
