Leo Messi’s luxury mansion in Ibiza targeted by climate activists
Environmental activists are intensifying efforts to draw attention to the climate crisis, often highlighting the significant impact of the world's wealthiest people on the planet's deteriorating condition. Their latest target was Leo Messi's mansion in Ibiza, which had its facade splashed and sprayed with paint.
The climate crisis is an ongoing reality, manifesting through warmer days, droughts, massive floods, and horrific wildfires that are increasingly common. Environmental activists are raising alarms, urging key politicians and influential individuals to recognize that the climate crisis can be mitigated. Unfortunately, many dismiss these activists as exaggerating alarmists.

Activists also highlight the significant role of the world's wealthiest individuals in exacerbating the climate crisis. Figures like Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and Travis Scott are frequently criticized for their private plane usage, which includes short, unnecessary flights that contribute to environmental degradation. Soccer star Leo Messi is similarly scrutinised and criticised for his unecological practices. For this, activists targeted his Ibiza mansion on Tuesday, August 6.
Climate activists destroy the facade of Leo Messi's mansion
Famous and internationally respected individuals have the potential to influence climate policies and inspire their social media followers to adopt greener lifestyles. Unfortunately, many prominent figures do not leverage their influence to effect real-world change. Among them is Leo Messi, one of the most famous footballers in sports history. Recently, Spanish climate activists decided to take action against him.
On Tuesday, August 6, the Futuro Vegetal group posted a photo and video showing climate activists had located and vandalised Messi's mansion in Ibiza. They splashed and sprayed black and red paint on its facade, aiming to draw attention to the role of the wealthy in exacerbating the climate crisis. The incident did not sit well with the Argentina president, who labelled the activists and their actions "crazy and cowardly."
"The Mansion is an illegal construction that the footballer acquired for the exorbitant sum of 11 million euros. While this is happening, in the Balearic Islands alone, between 2 and 4 people have died as a direct consequence of the heat wave. […] While the far right blames migrants for the crisis and displays extreme violence against them, those of us who fight for a better world are clear that the problem is social inequality. Let's tackle the problems at the root," reads the Futuro Vegetal statement published on social media.
