The unyielding effects of the climate crisis continue to tighten their grip on the planet, with more troubling news emerging daily. Now, Alpe du Grand Serre ski resort employees face severe repercussions due to changing weather. Local authorities have been compelled to make a difficult and potentially devastating decision.

Anyone who still doubts the real threat posed by the climate crisis is likely not paying attention. The evidence of the changes we face is clear and visible to the naked eye. Every day, alarming reports emerge from around the world. The planet is battered by alternating droughts and wildfires, followed by torrential rains that trigger devastating floods. In 2024, every month has broken records as the warmest ever recorded. The time to act is now—our planet needs saving.

Winter is approaching quickly; for many, it’s a time for mountain getaways and skiing on the slopes. Just a few years ago, there were regions where snow was guaranteed. Sadly, due to climate change and rising temperatures, this is no longer the case. Ski resorts that once relied on consistent snowfall are now seeing it diminish. Such is the situation in France at the Alpe du Grand Serre.

No snow in a ski resort in France

Anyone planning a winter trip to the Alpe du Grand Serre ski resort in France will need to rethink their holiday plans as alarming news emerges from the Alps. The climate crisis has hit the region so hard that there is now virtually no snow. As a result, local authorities have been forced to make a difficult decision: they will no longer fund the popular resort.

The closure will result in nearly 200 people losing their jobs, and the impact will ripple through nearby businesses that depend heavily on tourism. Lauranne Vincent, a local sports shop owner, told French television that the entire community is "devastated and shocked." No one expected the renowned ski resort to truly cease operations.
