During the Equality March in Olsztyn, one of the participants was shot in the head with an air rifle. She was carrying a rainbow flag.

The 3rd Olsztyn Equality March took place in Olsztyn on 20 May. The event was held under the honorary patronage of the mayor of the city and the European Commission in Poland. During the march there were several drag shows and the event had its finale at an afterparty in one of the student clubs.

As reported by the Stonewall group, one of the participants of the Olsztyn Equality March was shot in the head with a wind gun. The woman is not in danger. According to media reports, she has already left the hospital.

‘Police are not linking the shooting to the March.’

The organisers of the Olsztyn Equality March were quick to issue a statement on the shooting of one of the participants. The girl was attacked at around 5pm when she and her friend were going to a club for an afterparty. She was carrying a rainbow flag. The released statement highlighted this fact, vaguely suggesting that it was most likely what provoked the perpetrator to the deed.

The culprit has not yet been caught and the organisers of the Olsztyn Equality March are encouraging people to share all information about the case with the police. They also added that officers are not linking the shooting of the girl to the march.

Comments under the post of the Olsztyn Equality March clearly express disapproval of the actions taken by the police. However, not all internet users find the incident involving the shooting of a female participant reprehensible.
